The disiples decided to hold up all their worldly goods and hold them jointly. No man can successfully do this. By the time Paul goes after the Church at Corinthinth they had begi=un to have layers of feedings by the rich against the poor in the church. What a Satanic trick. Paul in an attempt to do the Lord's supper right asked the participants Eat at home and not drag this circus act into the chuech where a sacrad service was going to be performed. It is like the evil that has rolled into the Protestent Churches by the {pogressoves Which again are Marxists in Christian Costume. That being the case then what adjectives do you use to describe with His message? He is God, the Son; He is sovereign; His message to the world is the supreme Word for Life--Life found only in Him. How do you separate Him from His message?

C. We have explored all kinds of "missionary" options (both liberal and conservative) as a viable way to do that. I've gotten more and more convinced, though, that no organizational group will facilitate Jesus' anti-imperial teachings and example. So, I would love to hear from anybody with some experience living abroad (not Europe). Have any westerners here had success living in a powerless way among others who come by it more naturally?

Re: Two Kingdoms?

The two kingdoms and two swords theories are based on a pillar of Hellenistic dualism - the dimensional separation of spirit and matter, body from soul and heaven from earth. No one knows the condition of another person's soul. To suggest that anyone does based on their particular interpretation of random and selected verses from Scripture is putting yourself in the place of God. "Judge not, lest ye be not judged."
The Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 debated if Gentile persons could become Christians without becoming Jewish first. Peter held the determining indication of a person's worthiness of acceptance into the community of faith. Peter said "I have met these people. They love God and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are evident in their lives."
If you imagine yourself to be above the requirements outlined by Peter or even more if you determine yourself to take the place of God and determine a person's salvation, then there is no amount of conversation with a person with such an outlook of their own self importance.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness...against such THERE IS NO LAW."

Re: The Iconocast Episode 11: Gender, Sexism, and Community

Good discussion, leddies and laddy. You spent some time talking about Jim's comment on Jesus being the greatest disciple of Jesus. That is a very egocentric statement which smacks me as being full of pride. While I will not dispute that man is made in the image of God, all of creation declares the glory of God , not just humans. We see God in creation as creation behaves the way God intended it to be.

Because God has revealed himself to the world and convicted people of their sin through creation (Rm 1), it is even more important for Christians to care for creation. As we care for creation, we show respect for the ways God communicates to the world at large and we make it possible for the world to hear God more clearly. Polluting creation is the equivalent as stomping on the Bible.

I do agree with you that "Jesus came to redeem and reveal the original identity of man." The original identity of man was that of a gardener in Eden. And I agree that the only way mankind can get past his greed is through following Jesus. Jesus commended us to become the least, to be servants. When we stoop to the position of serving creation, of keeping creation from going through cycles of extinction, we become the means by which the rest of humanity is saved and become the greatest in the kingdom of God.

Remember that in the OT God warns that the consequences of not following his commands was not only subjugation by other countries, but environmental disaster. By caring for the environment, God uses us to redeem the world.

Re: Iconocast: An Interview with Richard Horsley

No matter whether we are living with other like minded people or not, the following Ideas for living the radical economic life of the NT still work:

Stay out of debt; debt is a slave master.

Embrace poverty: when we are willing to live without (if necessary), we cannot be controlled by our sinful desires and we don't end up giving control of our lives to others. When we embrace poverty, our needs become the means for creating community; we subject ourselves to working out sins in relation to and with others.

Make the most of what God has given us: work hard, be creative and responsible with the resources and relationships God has given us, and remember that everything we have is owned by God not us -he may ask for it back at any time.

Live generously. Freely we have received, freely we should give. The opportunities we encounter, our strength, our mental capabilities -everything is given by God. By giving to others we participate in the grace of God.

Care for creation, in so doing we care for God's kingdom on earth. This was our first responsibility that God entrusted to us. When we seek first the kingdom of God, all the other things we need will be provided; the better we care for creation, the more creation is available to provide for our needs.

Re: From Faith to Common Sense Atheism

Hey, do not answer my question "Do you think healing.... fraud? why?
