the Jesus Manifesto: Ordinary Radicals Trailer

Interesting. I kind of have an issue with some of the language in the trailer, like the phrase "bringing heaven to the world." We are participants by God's grace in the work of justice and redemption. I do not believe that WE bring heaven to the world. It is by our life and actions that we partner with God in this work, because ultimately God is doing the good work.

My other issue with this movie - it makes it seem like these folks are doing something "new." Sure, there is a growing movement of people who are interpreting the gospel differently, but I've spent time with nuns, priests, good people who have been doing this all their lives. They may not be "cool" enough to make a movie about, but they are definitely faithful people. The Catholic Worker Movement began in the 1930s and continues to this day. Catholic Workers are some of the most dedicated faithful and humble people I know. Yes, we need to raise more awareness about alternative ways of interpreting scripture in our culture. But is a movie really necessary? Once again, it confirms some of my hesitations about this movement of "Ordinary Radicals" and the way it is ego driven.

On the one hand, I agree that there is a wide reaching, continuous tradition that has been passed down for generations embodying many of these facets of belief and living.

Nevertheless, it has primarily been a minority position, and not all of that by choice. If this movie draws people's curiosity into some of the ideas and actions embodied by these 'ordinary radicals' than I say more power to it.

So they are doing the movie themselves about their own thing? Or what does "ego-driven" refer to? What is so bad about a movie? What are the parameters that define if a movie is "necessary"?
